5 Acting Careers Ruined By One Role

Sometimes, one role is all it takes to become an iconic, highly paid, award-winning actor. In the same fashion, actors risk losing their reputations once they play certain characters. We look at five actors who accepted roles that harmed their careers and the critically derided movie they featured in.
Sophia Copolla – The Godfather III

Born to filmmaker parents, Sophia Coppola made her acting debut as a child in “The Godfather.” Years later, she appeared in the film’s sequel “The Godfather III” with mostly negative reviews. According to her, she didn’t enjoy acting. Since then, she’s focused on directing hit movies like “Marie Antoinette.”
Rupert Everett – The Next Best Thing

One positive outcome of the 2000 film The Next Best Thing was that its soundtrack, “American Pie,” topped various charts. However, the movie’s protagonists, Madonna and Rupert Everett, weren’t praised for their acting. Instead, they received a nomination at the Golden Raspberry Awards for The Worst Screen Combo.
Elizabeth Berkely – Showgirls

Expectations were high for the 1995 film “Showgirls” after seeing that the crew consisted of names from the critically acclaimed “Basic Instinct.” The film’s protagonist, Elizabeth Berkely, was also expected to hit Hollywood. However, the subpar execution made the film a laughingstock, and Berkely was heavily criticized for her acting.
David Caruso – Jade

David Caruso is best known for his roles in “NYPD Blue” and “CSI: Miami.” While he received high praise for those series, he didn’t enjoy the same success with movies, especially the 1995 film “Jade.” According to Caruso, he barely got a call after the box office earnings were released.
Judge Reinhold – Vice Versa

In his first two years in Hollywood, Judge Reinhold appeared in favourably-reviewed movies like “Running Scared” and “Stripes.” Unfortunately, he couldn’t replicate the same success in the 1988 movie “Vice Versa.” It flopped enough for Reinhold to admit that it signaled the end of his career.
